BNP eyes deregulation, liberalisation of economy: Amir Khasru

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), if voted into power, will deregulate and liberalise the economy to enable it to surpass thresholds, said its National Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury.
"Bureaucratic complexities will be removed," he said during a discussion on "Call for Unity: Towards a Prosperous ICT Sector" organised by the United ICT Forum, a platform for local technology entrepreneurs, in the capital today (13 March).
ICT is the sector with the greatest potential for Bangladesh, said Amir Khasru, also a former commerce minister.
Policies that have long focused on apparel should significantly incorporate ICT, as the sector generates immediate and high returns for the nation, Khasru said, criticising the previous wave of ICT growth.
"We saw how a handful of firms, through corrupt business practices, drained taxpayers' money during the previous government. This will not be repeated," he said, calling for no politicisation of trade bodies.
Highlighting the ICT sector's potential, BNP Chairperson's Adviser Zahir Uddin Swapan suggested unified recommendations from the industry.
A large number of technology entrepreneurs, including industry leaders, were present at the event hosted by United ICT Forum Convenor Faisal Alim.
