BNP decides to remove its banners, posters nationwide within 3 days
Banners and posters expressing condolences over the recent death of Khaleda Zia may remain in place for a few more days
The BNP has decided to remove all its banners and posters from across the country, including the capital Dhaka, within the next three days on party acting chief Tarique Rahman's instructions.
Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi inaugurated the banner and poster removal campaign in front of the BNP central office in Naya Paltan today (2 December).
However, banners and posters expressing condolences over the recent death of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia will remain in place for a few more days, while all other types of banners and posters are being removed.
This morning, a meeting took place at the BNP's central office, attended by senior leaders of Dhaka North and South units, as well as leaders of Jubo Dal, Swecchasebak Dal and Chhatra Dal.
Rizvi was present at the meeting and issued key directives.
Later, after the campaign inauguration, the senior BNP leader said that although banners and posters are a means of political expression, their use damages the city's beauty and aesthetic appeal.
"To ensure that no one's rights are infringed when banners and posters are put up, our acting chairman has given clear instructions," Rizvi said.
"The BNP's Dhaka North and South units, along with Jubo Dal, Swechchhasebak Dal and Chhatra Dal, have started removing banners and posters on a voluntary basis. Mourning banners for Madam [Khaleda Zia] may remain for a few more days."
