BNP to create fund for families of July uprising victims: Mirza Fakhrul
He added that members of the "Amra BNP Poribar" initiative have already stood beside affected families from the July movement.
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) will create a fund to support the families of those injured or martyred during the July uprising, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced today (20 July).
Speaking at a programme held at the mausoleum of late president Ziaur Rahman in the capital's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Mirza Fakhrul said, "I said it yesterday, and I'm saying it again today - elections will happen. Who gets elected or not is secondary. Today, I will request our acting chairman to establish a party fund to rehabilitate the families of those injured or martyred."
He added that members of the "Amra BNP Poribar" initiative have already stood beside affected families from the July movement.
Recalling the grief of a martyr's mother from the July movement, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, "The boy we dreamt our future on was taken from us, brutally shot, thrown onto a van, without checking if he was alive, with more bodies piled on and then set on fire."
"Just imagine, this is a free country we fought for in 1971. And now the police, funded by our taxes, are burning and killing our children. It's beyond cruel, utterly barbaric," he added.
Condemning ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, Fakhrul said, "Hasina can never be forgiven for such cruelty and inhumanity. She is a disgrace to humanity. She is a disgrace to all mothers."
"Our first duty will be to bring her and others like her to justice. Our second duty is to rehabilitate the families of the martyrs and provide advanced medical care and rehabilitation for those injured. If we fail to do this, the future generations of this nation will not forgive us," Fakhrul added.
