BNP activists block Dhaka-Sylhet highway demanding nomination for party candidate in Brahmanbaria-2
Supporters also held a motorcycle showdown on the highway later on
BNP leaders and activists blocked the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway today (15 November) demanding the party's nomination for Upazila BNP President Shahjahan Siraj in the Brahmanbaria-2 (Sarail and Ashuganj) constituency.
Supporters of Siraj blocked the highway in the Sonarampur area of Ashuganj upazila from 3:15pm to 3:45pm, causing severe traffic congestion on both sides of the highway, according to police officials.
The protesters left the highway at 3:45pm, and traffic returned to normal. Afterwards, supporters hold a motorcycle showdown on the highway.
Out of six parliamentary seats in Brahmanbaria, BNP has nominated party candidates for four. However, candidates have not been announced for Brahmanbaria-2 (Sarail and Ashuganj) and Brahmanbaria-6 (Bancharampur).
It is assumed that these seats have been kept open for alliance partners. In the Brahmanbaria-2 seat, half a dozen nomination seekers — including Siraj and BNP Central Assistant International Affairs Secretary Barrister Rumin Farhana — are seeking the party nomination.
