Biplobi Workers' Party today (27 April) urged China to play a more proactive role in ensuring the safe repatriation of the Rohingya people from Bangladesh to Myanmar.

"We request China to take the Rohingya issue seriously and play a more active role in the safe repatriation of the Rohingyas to Myanmar," party General Secretary Saiful Haque told UNB after a meeting with a visiting delegation from the Communist Party of China (CPC).

Saiful led a four-member delegation from his party at the meeting which was held at The Westin Hotel in Dhaka.

He said the hour-long discussion focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation and strengthening ties between the two parties and the two nations.

"On behalf of our party, we extended greetings to the CPC and the Chinese government, an important development partner of Bangladesh. We expressed hope that cooperation between the two countries in various fields, including industry, agriculture, trade, infrastructure, education, health, and water management, will be further strengthened in the future," Saiful said.

He also called upon China to ease the visa process for Bangladeshis, facilitating smoother travel for treatment, business, and other urgent purposes.

Saiful said they assured the CPC leaders that the people of Bangladesh would not allow anyone to use Bangladesh for anti-China activities.

At the meeting, Saiful said they expressed hope that the relationship between the two parties would grow even closer in the future.

He said the CPC leaders reiterated China's commitment to maintaining a firm policy of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries and expressed strong determination to further advance multi-dimensional cooperation between Bangladesh and China.

The other members of the Biplobi Workers' Party delegation were Bhonishikha Jamali, Akbar Khan, and Mir Mofazzal Hossain Moshtaq.

The CPC delegation was headed by Peng Xiubin, Director-General of the Southeast and South Asian Affairs Bureau under the International Department of the CPC Central Committee. Other members included Deputy Director Chen Xuanbo, Third Secretary Chen Yongpei, and Attaché Zhang Guyu.

Earlier on Saturday, the CPC delegation also met with a delegation from BNP.

The CPC team also held meetings with several other parties, including Islami Andolon Bangladesh, NDM, and Bangladesh Jatiya Dal.
