Bangladesh Ganatantrik Chhatra Sangsad not contesting Cucsu polls
Several of its members are set to contest independently

The Bangladesh Ganatantrik Chhatra Sangsad (BGCS) will not field a panel in the upcoming Chittagong University Central Students' Union (Cucsu) elections. However, several of its members are set to contest independently.
Confirming the decision on Monday (16 September), CU unit member secretary Al Mashnun said, "We have decided not to participate in the Cucsu polls as a panel. But if any individual wants, they can contest independently."
Nomination form distribution began on Sunday (14 September) and continued for three days, ending today. Although the initial schedule fixed the time from 9:30am to 3:30pm, the Election Commission extended the hours on the final day.
Election commissioner and member secretary Prof AKM Ariful Haque Siddique said, "We are seeing spontaneous participation from the students. Many are collecting forms on the last day. No matter how late it gets, even until midnight, we will continue distributing forms."
Earlier in the morning, students stood in long queues despite the rain to collect nomination papers. To manage the last-day rush, the commission appointed additional staff. Forms were collected both by independent aspirants and by candidates from different panels.
The deadline for submitting nomination papers is tomorrow (17 September).
Voting for the Cucsu and hall union elections is scheduled for 12 October 2025. The last Cucsu election was held in 1990, meaning the polls are being revived at CU after 35 years.
