'Ganatantrik Chhatra Sangsad' rebrands as 'Jatiya Chhatra Shakti'
Jatiya Chhatra Shakti will now function as an associate organisation of NCP, instead of operating as an independent student body
The Bangladesh Ganatantrik Chharta Sangsad (Bangladesh Democratic Students' Council) has been renamed Jatiya Chhatra Shakti and will now function as an associate organisation of NCP, instead of operating as an independent student body.
The announcement came yesterday (23 October) during the National Coordination Meeting on the Reorganisation of the Student Parliament and Determining Future Strategy held at the Abu Sayeed Convention Hall near InterContinental intersection in the capital. However, no committee was announced at the event.
Addressing the gathering, NCP Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain said, "There will be no compromise in implementing the July Charter, it must be enforced at any cost."
He further stated, "The culture of fear that existed during the Chhatra League era must never be allowed to return."
Hasnat Abdullah, chief organiser for the southern region, said the July Declaration had failed to meet the people's expectations. Meanwhile, northern region chief organiser Sarjis Alam announced that NCP convening committees would soon be formed across the country.
The Ganatantrik Chhatra Sansad was originally formed on 26 February by the coordinators of the *Anti-Discrimination Student Movement* at the University of Dhaka. With its new name, the group has now officially begun its journey as an affiliated organisation of the NCP.
