The complaint alleges that the alleged attackers were threatening Iqbal, son of Shafiqur Rahman Bhuiyan from Burichang Sadar area, since the last July-August period over his political affiliations.

At 10pm yesterday (1 April), some 20-25 armed men, alleged members of Chhatra League and Jubo League, led by Burichang Upazila Jubo League's Organising Secretary Mohammad Alamgir Hossain, attacked Iqbal's office at Burichang Uttar Bazar area.

During the attack, furniture and other valuables worth Tk2 lakh were damaged, according to the complaint.

While asked about the matter, Iqbal said, "I was at a reunion programme with my political associates at the house of BNP's Cumilla South unit Member Secretary Hazi Jasimuddin at Bagra area at night when I was informed via a call about the attack."

Jubo League leader Alamgir could not be reached in person or over the phone. He had reportedly gone into hiding since the attack.
