'Accident or sabotage?': Jamaat chief expresses concern over recent fires

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman has expressed deep concern over the recent spate of major fires across the country, including the one that broke out at the cargo village of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka today (18 October).
In a statement, Shafiqur wondered whether the repeated incidents — including the devastating blazes in the capital's Mirpur and Chattogram's EPZ area in the past few days — were mere accidents or acts of sabotage.
Regarding today's fire at Dhaka airport, he said, "The fire at such a strategic establishment like the airport is undoubtedly a reflection of administrative mismanagement, negligence, and a lack of security preparedness."
The Jamaat chief urged the authorities to conduct a "thorough, impartial, and prompt investigation" to determine if negligence, mismanagement, or sabotage played a role in the incident.
"Those responsible must be identified and brought to justice to set an example," he added.
Shafiqur also called for ensuring maximum security and effective fire prevention measures at all key installations across the country to prevent such disasters in the future.
He expressed sympathy for the passengers and public affected by the incident and extended heartfelt condolences to the importers and business owners who suffered losses.
