160 members resign from Chandpur’s Students Against Discrimination committee
They said the central leadership formed the committee without any discussion with them, ignoring many dedicated leaders from Chandpur

As many as 160 members of the newly formed Students Against Discrimination (SAD) convening committee of Chandpur district resigned last night (19 February), alleging that the platform's central leadership formed it without any prior discussion and ignoring many dedicated local leaders.
They made the announcement during a press conference held at the Chandpur Press Club at around 10pm yesterday, a day after the 213-member committee was formed.
"We actively participated in the nationwide movement in July, representing Chandpur with dedication. However, the central committee announced a 213-member district committee without consulting us. We knew nothing about this," said Mujahid Shihab, the newly appointed joint convener of the committee.
The exclusion of many student leaders seems to be the result of a conspiracy and has created controversy, he alleged.
"We consider this committee controversial. Therefore, 160 of us are collectively resigning in protest," he added.
Shihab also said that they would continue to press for the dismissal of the committee. "We'll announce fresh programmes in this regard, if necessary."
The 213-member Chandpur district committee was announced on Tuesday (18 February) through a letter signed by SAD Central Convener Hasnat Abdullah and Member Secretary Arif Sohel.
Nadim Patwari was made the committee's convener and Syed Sakibul Islam the member secretary.
