Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam on Monday said a three-day Police Week 2025 will begin on Tuesday focusing on promoting a discrimination-free Bangladesh through professional and effective policing.

Addressing a press conference at the Foreign Service Academy ahead of Police Week, IGP Alam said the event will be inaugurated with a speech by Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus to the police members at Rajarbagh Police Lines in the city.

Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam and Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder, among others, were present at the briefing.

This year's theme is "Amar Police Amar Desh, Boishommyohin Bangladesh" (My Police, My Country, and Discrimination-Free Bangladesh).

"We want to instill this thought in the minds of the countrymen so that they can say that this police of Bangladesh, free from discrimination, are ours," the IGP said.

The top officer of Bangladesh police said that this year, the week will be observed in a more concise format, with an emphasis on functionality over formality.

IGP Alam said the event will involve in-depth discussions on enhancing the effectiveness of police activities, addressing challenges faced by police units, and devising strategies for overcoming them.

Special focus will be given on strengthening stability, maintaining discipline in society, and ensuring a safe environment for citizens, he added.

Field-level police units will review ground realities and prepare an action plan for the coming year based on these discussions, he added.

There will be citizen engagement sessions during the Police Week to gather public opinions on policing. The IGP expressed hope that this initiative will help make the police force more people-oriented.
