Police ready to face any challenge: IGP

Inspector General of Bangladesh Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun on Monday said Bangladesh Police is ready to face any challenge in the coming days.

"If anyone tries to deteriorate law and order situation ahead of the upcoming national elections, then he will be dealt with iron hands," he stated after paying rich tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing wreaths at his mausoleum in Tungipara.

Immediately after getting the senior secretary status, Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun went to Tungipara to pay tributes to Bangabandhu this noon.

The IGP said Bangladesh Police has been successfully performing election duties all the times, adding, "Recently, many city corporation elections were conducted peacefully and in a good manner. Police have sufficient capacity, manpower, training, equipment and logistics to face any attempt to destabilise law and order in the upcoming elections."

"So, any situation related to deteriorating the law and order will be dealt with iron hands. We are ready to discharge the duty bestowed upon us under the Election Commission," he added.

Mamun said every member of the police force has been working tirelessly to maintain law and order in the country, adding, "Due to this, the law and order situation has improved tremendously and investment friendly environment prevails in the country."

He said that the law and order situation was improved throughout the country and with this, the economic activity and growth is also increasing.

After laying the wreath, the IGP stood in solemn silence for some times as a mark of profound respect to the memory of the Father of the Nation.

He offered doa seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of Bangabandhu and other martyrs who had to embrace martyrdom on the fateful night of 15 August 1975.

A special prayer was also offered for long life of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The IGP also sought peace of all souls who sacrificed their lives during the Liberation War in 1971.

He also signed the visitors' book at the Tungipara Mausoleum Complex.
