Police cordon off BNP’s Naya Paltan office

Police have cordoned off Bangladesh Nationalist Party's (BNP) Naya Paltan office since Saturday morning as the party is scheduled to bring out of a procession seeking its chairperson Khaleda Zia's release from jail.
 
Police did not allow anyone to stand in front of the office for the protest programme. Party followers are staying inside of the central office since morning, reports Somoy TV.

BNP on February 12 announced of bring out the procession from their Nayapaltan central office at 2pm on Saturday and it will end at the Jatiya Press Club.
 
Earlier on February 8, Fakhrul announced that their party would stage demonstrations across the country on Saturday to push for their demand to have Khaleda freed.
 
Khaleda has been in jail since she was convicted in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case on February 8, 2018. She was found guilty in another corruption case later the same year, though her party claims both cases are politically motivated.
 
The BNP chief has been receiving treatment at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University since April 1 last year.
