Police block ‘March to Election Commission’ by July Oikya

July Oikya's "March to Election Commission" programme has been blocked by police as the group sought to protest and demand the cancellation of candidacies of candidates from the Jatiya Party, 14-party alliance, and NDF ahead of the 13th National Parliament elections.
The organisation set out in a procession towards the Election Commission (EC) today (13 January) at around 1pm, but was stopped by police near the Islamic Foundation.
During the demonstration, participants chanted slogans calling for the cancellation of Jatiya Party candidates and carried placards showing their demands.
Later, a representative team from the July Oikya entered the EC building to submit a memorandum, while other members stayed in front of the Islamic Foundation.
