PM orders stricter action against unchecked use of polythene, plastic
The meeting discussed progress in implementing various government initiatives to control environmental pollution and future measures, including increasing the use of environment-friendly block bricks, controlling air, water, soil and noise pollution, and improving waste management.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today (9 September) directed law enforcement agencies to take strict action to curb the uncontrolled use of polythene and plastics across the country.
He issued the directive while presiding over a review meeting on environmental pollution control at the Bangladesh Secretariat this morning, according to a release from the PM's Press Wing.
The prime minister also instructed all relevant ministries, divisions and authorities to properly discharge their responsibilities in curbing the use of polythene and plastic.

The meeting reviewed the progress of various government initiatives to control environmental pollution and discussed future measures.

Road Transport and Bridges, Railways and Shipping Minister Shaikh Robiul Alam, Sate Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam, State Minister for Water Resources Farhad Hossain Azad, State Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Sheikh Faridul Islam, Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani, Prime Minister's Principal Secretary ABM Abdus Sattar, Dhaka South City Corporation Administrator Md Abdus Salam and Prime Minister's Special Assistant for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Dr Saimum Parvez, among senior officials, attended the meeting.
