PM orders completion of reopening, privatisation of closed state-run factories by 2026
The prime minister also instructed the relevant agencies to take effective measures to improve the country’s investment climate.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today (30 July) directed the authorities concerned to complete the reopening and privatisation process of long-closed state-owned industrial units by the end of 2026, alongside efforts to attract greater private investment.
The directive came at a high-level meeting chaired by the prime minister at the Cabinet Division conference room at the Bangladesh Secretariat, according to the Prime Minister's Press Wing.
The meeting reviewed plans to revive long-shuttered state-owned industries by removing bureaucratic bottlenecks, expediting administrative procedures and encouraging domestic and foreign private investment to restart production.
The prime minister also instructed the relevant agencies to take effective measures to improve the country's investment climate.
Finance and Planning Adviser Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, Commerce, Industries, Textiles and Jute Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir, State Minister for Textiles and Jute Md Shariful Alam, Bangladesh Investment Development Authority Executive Chairman Ashik Chowdhury and senior officials from the relevant ministries and agencies attended the meeting.
