Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Imran Ahmed today said Bangladesh is a land of people of all religions.

"Our constitution establishes equal rights to all people regardless of religion and caste. We all fought for the country in 1971," he said while exchanging greetings with the leaders of Hindu community on the occasion of upcoming Durga Puja at Gowainghat Upazila Parishad auditorium this noon.

The minister also urged people to cast their votes for "boat" for peace and prosperity of the country.

With Subhash Chandra Pal, President of Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad, Gowainghat Upazila, in the chair, the greeting exchange meeting was addressed, among others, by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Tahmilur Rahman, acting chairman of Gowainghat Upazila Parishad Afia Begum, Upazila unit Awami League President Md Aslam, Nityanada Das and Anup Kanti De of Puja Udjapan Parishad.

Durga Puja will be celebrated at 39 Mondops in Gowainghat Upazila in the district this year.

The minister distributed 19 metric tonnes of rice for 38 mandaps on behalf of the government and donated Tk5,000 for each.
