A party repeating Awami League-era practices: Asif Mahmud
Referring to the upcoming election, asif said all political equations of the past 54 years have collapsed.
A political party has replicated in the last one and a half years the kind of activities carried out over 17 years under the Awami League, National Citizen Party spokesperson Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan said today (23 January), referring to the BNP.
He made the remarks while speaking at a "Youth Festival and Cultural Evening" organised by Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Jasim Uddin Sarkar for the Dhaka-10 constituency at Rabindra Sarobar in Dhanmondi this afternoon.
"Many of the misdeeds witnessed over the past 17 years have reappeared within a party that has recently gained confidence about returning to power," Asif, also NCP's Election Management Committee chairman, said.
Referring to the upcoming election, he said all political equations of the past 54 years have collapsed.
"When we take to the streets, we can feel a change in the political demography. The people of Bangladesh will change the old, conventional calculations through their voting rights," he said.
He also said the current political alliance has been formed on the basis of certain principles and would bring liberation for the people.
"If this unity wins, we will carry out reforms that go beyond the July Charter," he added.
Asif also said the upcoming election would determine whether Bangladesh would continue on the same path it has followed over the past 54 years.
"It will also decide whether the country returns to the politics of disappearances, killings and extortion that people have witnessed over the last 17 years," he added
