Parked bus goes up in flames in Dhamrai
No casualties were reported.
A bus parked beside a road in Dhamrai, Dhaka, caught fire late last night (27 November), with the police probing the exact cause of the blaze.
Before firefighters could reach the scene, locals managed to extinguish the flames using water and sand.
No casualties were reported.
Dhamrai Police Station Sub-Inspector Parimal Sutradhar said the blaze damaged all seats and window panels inside the bus.
The exact cause of the fire will be known after investigation, he added.
According to police and fire service sources, the bus belonging to Nirapod Paribahan had been parked on the side of a regional road near a maize mill.
Around midnight, locals noticed flames inside the vehicle and immediately informed police and firefighters while attempting to douse the fire themselves.
Shamsul Haque, sub-officer at Dhamrai Fire Station, said the blaze was put out by locals before their team arrived.
Meanwhile, the bus owner claims unidentified individuals may have set the vehicle on fire after the driver parked it and went home.
