Over 50 injured in clash over cucumber theft in Brahmanbaria’s Nasirnagar

More than 50 people, including women and children, were injured in a clash between two groups in Nasirnagar, Brahmanbaria, reportedly triggered by the theft of cucumbers from a field.
The incident took place in Sreeghar village under Burishwar Union this morning (10 June), confirmed Nasirnagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Khairul Alam.
According to witnesses and locals, Jewel Mia, a resident of the Barohati area in Sreeghar village, had cultivated cucumbers on land near his home. However, the cucumbers had been repeatedly stolen from his field. It was later discovered that several youths from the nearby Sarkarbari area were allegedly responsible for the theft.
Tensions escalated and the clash occurred following a confrontation between the residents of Sarkarbari and Barohati areas over the matter in the morning.
At least 50 people from both sides sustained injuries during the clash. The injured were treated at Nasirnagar Upazila Health Complex.
OC Khairul said that one side had proposed a mediation meeting to resolve the matter, but the other side did not respond. As a result, the dispute erupted into violence.
Though the situation is currently under control, additional police forces have been deployed in the area to prevent further escalation, he added.
