A violent clash broke out between two rival groups in Zajira upazila of Shariatpur at around 9am this morning (5 April), with over a hundred crude explosives reportedly detonated during the confrontation.

The incident occurred in the Durbadanga area of Bilaspur union. No casualties have been reported so far.

A 15-second video of the clash has since gone viral on Facebook, showing members of both groups confronting each other in an open field.

Some individuals were seen wearing helmets and carrying buckets, from which they were throwing explosive devices. Loud explosions and smoke can be seen and heard in the footage.

Confirming the incident, Zajira Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mahabubur Rahman said that the clash broke out between the two groups over establishing dominance in the area.

"Police are patrolling the area after receiving information. The situation is now under control. Further legal action will be taken accordingly," he said.

Law enforcement officials are currently working to identify and apprehend those involved in the incident.

This appears to be part of an ongoing series of confrontations between the two groups, according to police.

According to local sources and police, the conflict stems from a long-standing rivalry between supporters of Bilaspur Union Parishad Chairman Kuddus Bepari and Swechchhasebak League leader Jalil Madbar, over establishing dominance in the area. Similar clashes have occurred in the past.

The latest altercation was reportedly triggered by a minor incident, leading to a renewed outbreak of violence. Both groups engaged in throwing crude handmade bombs and cocktail explosives at each other, creating panic in the area.

Police arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control.
