A failure to deliver One-Time Passwords (OTP) required to access the National Identity Card (NID) server has led to a temporary halt in NID services today (13 May).

ASM Humayun Kabir, director general of the Election Commission's National Identity Registration Division, told media about the OTP issue and confirmed the NID service disruption around 12:30pm.

However, institutions that receive NID services have not faced disruptions, Election Commission (EC) officials are currently unable to provide services.

ASM Humayun Kabir stated that after entering the user ID and password to log into the server, a one-time password (OTP) is required. Due to the OTP not being generated, officials are currently unable to access the server. As a result, online operations are temporarily suspended.

"However, biometric data collection, including photo capturing, is ongoing. Once the OTP issue is resolved, all services will resume," he added.

He further clarified that the server itself is not down. "We have procured an OTP service to operate the NID system, but there is currently an issue with the system of the service provider. Work is underway to fix it. Once resolved, the service operations will resume as usual," he said.
