NID registration scam: Court freezes 129 accounts of Faridpur data entry operator Rajibul, 2 others
Court records show that the frozen accounts currently hold a total of Tk7.65 lakh
A Dhaka court has ordered to freeze 129 bank accounts belonging to three individuals, including Faridpur District Election Office's data entry operator Rajibul Islam, over allegations of illegally earning money from a syndicate involved in irregular voter list and National ID (NID) registration activities.
The order was issued today (20 November) by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Faiz following a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Court records show that the frozen accounts currently hold a total of Tk7.65 lakh.
The other two accused are Faridpur's Saltha Upazila Election Officer Md Imranur Rahman Imran and Bulbul Ahmed, owner of Bushra Telecom and Varieties Store, confirmed Bench Assistant Md Riaz Hossain.
According to the ACC petition submitted by the agency's Deputy Director Jalal Uddin, Rajibul, Imran and others are accused of unlawfully facilitating voter list updates and NID registration, through which they earned illicit payments from a syndicate. The commission is also investigating them under money laundering charges due to suspicious financial activities conducted across various accounts.
Investigators found that the accused individuals and their associated entities maintained 129 accounts with banks, financial institutions, and mobile financial service providers, through which transactions amounting to crores of taka were carried out. The ACC informed the court that the accused had recently attempted to transfer or withdraw funds from these accounts, raising concerns that assets could be moved or concealed before the investigation is completed.
To prevent the dissipation of funds, the ACC requested immediate freezing of all accounts held in the names of the accused and any affiliated parties across banking institutions and mobile financial services including bKash, Nagad and Upay. The court granted the request, directing all relevant institutions to enforce the freeze until further orders.
