Educationist Jatin Sarkar passes away at 88
He had been suffering from old-age complications and polyarthritis

Renowned essayist, educationist, and cultural activist Professor Jatin Sarkar (88) passed away this afternoon (13 August).
He breathed his last at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital's ICU at 2:40pm, Prothom Alo reports citing Jatin's son Suman Sarkar.
Suffering from old-age complications and polyarthritis, Sarkar underwent surgery in June. He had been staying at his daughter's home in Mymensingh, but as his condition worsened, he was admitted to a hospital in Dhaka before being brought back to Mymensingh recently.
Born on 18 August 1936 in Chandpara village of Kendua, Netrokona, Jatin Sarkar was a long-time teacher at the Bangla Department of Nasirabad College, Mymensingh. He was deeply involved in leftist politics, progressive movements, and intellectual literary pursuits, serving twice as president of the Bangladesh Udichi Shilpigoshthi central committee.
Over his career, he received numerous awards, including the Independence Award (2010), Bangla Academy Literary Award (2007), and Prothom Alo Book of the Year (2005) for Pakistaner Jonmo-Mrittu Dorshon, among many others.
