Dipon Group chairman Mahmud Hasan passes away
His namaz-e-janaza was held at Gulshan Society Mosque in Dhaka yesterday.
Mahmud Hasan, chairman of Dipon Group and a prominent entrepreneur in Bangladesh's energy infrastructure and construction sectors, passed away at a hospital in Dhaka at 11pm on Saturday (26 September).
His namaz-e-janaza was held at Gulshan Society Mosque in Dhaka yesterday (27 September), after which he was buried at Banani Graveyard, according to a press release.
He is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter, along with relatives, friends, colleagues and well-wishers.
Mahmud Hasan began his business career in 1970 and went on to work across Bangladesh's energy, utilities, power and infrastructure sectors over more than five decades.
Under his leadership, his business ventures carried out projects involving gas pipelines, gas processing plants, valve stations and metering stations, as well as Wasa water pipelines in different parts of the country.
His business interests were also linked to several major energy infrastructure projects, including the Bibiyana Gas Field and associated pipeline infrastructure, the India-Bangladesh oil pipeline and the LNG pipeline from Maheshkhali to Chattogram.
His companies and associated enterprises later took part in the construction of several major infrastructure projects, including power plants and national facilities. These included projects related to the third terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka and the Rampal Power Plant, among more than 100 infrastructure and construction projects.
Beyond his business career, Mahmud Hasan was known for his religious devotion, humility and charitable activities.
He established and supported several charitable and religious institutions in his native Lakshmipur, Savar, where he worked, and other parts of Bangladesh.
