Nurul Islam Moni appointed as chief whip of parliament
BNP Central Committee Vice Chairman Nurul Islam Moni has been appointed as the chief whip of the 13th national parliament.
He is the elected Member of Parliament from Barguna-2 constituency.
President Mohammed Shahabuddin ordered the appointments through a gazette notification issued by the parliament secretariat on Monday (2 March), which was signed by Secretariat Secretary Kaniz Mowla by his order.
The six other lawmakers have also been appointed as whips.
They are GK Gaus (Habiganj-3), Rakibul Islam (Khulna-3), Mia Nuruddin Ahmed Apu (Shariatpur-3), Ruhul Quddus Talukder Dulu (Natore-2), Md Akhtaruzzaman Mia (Dinajpur-4) and ABM Ashraf Uddin Nizan (Lakshmipur-4).
The 13th national parliamentary election held on 12 February saw the BNP's landslide victory, following which a new government was formed on 17 February under the leadership of party chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
The first session of the newly elected parliament is scheduled to be held on 12 March.
The chief whip and other whips are responsible for maintaining party discipline in the House and coordinating parliamentary activities on behalf of the government.
