Election Commissioner Abdur Rahmanel Masud has said it is not yet time to comment on whether a credible election is possible without the participation of the Awami League.

"The time to answer this question has not come yet," he said in response to a journalist's query on the matter.

He made the remark during a press briefing after attending a day-long workshop titled "Voter List Update–2025, Subsequent Review and Sustainable Development Plan" at the Rajshahi Regional Public Administration Centre at 11am today (19 May).

"The government has banned the activities of the Awami League, and the Election Commission has suspended the party's registration. Unless the suspension is cancelled or withdrawn, there is no opportunity for the party to participate in the election," Commissioner Masud said.

He also said the Election Commission is fully prepared to conduct the election within the timeframe set by the chief adviser.

Election Commission Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed attended the workshop as the special guest. Senior officials from the divisional and district administrations, as well as the police, were also present.

A total of 70 election officers and data collectors from various districts and upazilas of the Rajshahi division participated in the programme.
