Former law minister Anisul Huq, former prime minister Sheikh Hasina's adviser Salman F Rahman, and ex-EXIM Bank chairman and NASSA Group Chairman Nazrul Islam Mazumder have been sent to jail following the completion of their respective remand periods in separate cases.

The order was issued this afternoon (11 July) by Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Jewel Rana after hearings in each case.

The investigating officers submitted petitions to keep the accused detained, which the court approved, according to court sources.

On 7 July, the court had granted a two-day remand for Anisul Huq in a case filed under Banani Police Station over illegal possession of firearms.

Upon conclusion of the remand, Investigating Officer Md Iadul Haque produced him before the court and requested to send him to jail, which the court approved.

In a separate case filed by Jatrabari Police over the murder of a man named Md Amin, the court had earlier granted a three-day remand for Salman F Rahman on 27 January.

Following the end of the remand, Investigating Officer Sub-Inspector Zahidul Islam brought him before the court and sought jail custody, which the court allowed.

Meanwhile, in a case filed over the killing of a youth named Imon Hossain Gazi during the protest in July-August last year, the court had approved a five-day remand for Nazrul Islam Mojumder on 12 February.

After completing the remand, Investigating Officer and Inspector Md Abdul Majid sought his detention, which the court granted.

According to the case details, Imon Hossain Gazi was fatally shot on 5 August during the July uprising on Chittagong Road in the capital's Jatrabari.

His brother, Anwar Hossain, filed a case on 28 August naming 85 individuals as accused.

On 13 August last year, police arrested Anisul Huq and Salman F Rahman near Dhaka's Sadarghat while they were allegedly attempting to flee the city via waterways.

The following day, the court granted a 10-day remand for Anisul Huq in connection with a murder case filed at New Market Police Station.

Both individuals underwent multiple remand periods in various cases across different Dhaka police stations before being sent to jail.

Currently, they remain in custody.

Meanwhile, Nazrul Islam Mojumder was arrested by Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police on 2 October from Dhaka's Gulshan area.

He has been in jail since then.
