'No gas, no bill': Jamaat MP demands bill waiver for days without supply
The lawmaker said the gas crisis has intensified in Shyampur, Postogola and Jatrabari, leaving around 80% of households in the areas without supply.
Jamaat-e-Islami MP from Dhaka-4 constituency urged the government not to charge consumers for days when gas supply was unavailable, claiming that most of his areas are still without gas supply.
The crisis has intensified in Shyampur, Postogola and Jatrabari, leaving nearly 80% of households in the areas without supply, he said during a discussion on a notice drawing parliament's attention to the gas crisis today (3 September), with Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad in the chair.
"We told locals that the crisis would gradually ease and the situation would improve. But now the situation has reached a point where around 80% of households have no gas," he said.

Highlighting the struggle of industries due to the gas crisis, he said, "Industrial owners have told me that their production has fallen by 50%. In some cases, they are operating factories at only 30% of their production capacity."
"Customers are being forced to pay bills despite not receiving gas. The minister must take effective measures to stop this," said Abedin.
