No Bangladesh-India border gathering in Thakurgaon this year

The local administration issued an urgent notice banning the gathering apprehending untoward incident and deterioration in law and order situation.

The yearly gathering and traditional fair along Bangladesh-India border in Thaurgaon's Ranishankail upazila scheduled for tomorrow will not be held this year.

Rakibul Hasan, Ranisankail Upazila Nirbahi Officer, said the local administration issued an urgent notice banning the gathering apprehending untoward incident and deterioration in law and order situation.

Besides, a flag meeting between Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Border Security Force (BSF) of India also took the same decision and requested people not to gather along the border.

Pathor Kali Mela is held on the bank of the Kulik River in Tengria Gobindpur area of Chapasar Tajigaon village near the border along Thakurgaon's Ranisankail and Haripur Upazilas.

Around 20,000 to 30,000 people from both sides used to gather to meet their relatives who reside on either side of the barbed wire fence. They used to get two to three hours to meet.
