New leadership takes charge of 3 CHT zilla parishads
The move replaces the interim councils formed in November 2024, with new chairmen and 14 members now set to oversee local development and administrative affairs in the three hill districts.
The government has reconstituted the interim zilla parishads of Chattogram's Rangamati, Khagrachhari and Bandarban, appointing new chairmen and 14 members to each council.
The Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs issued separate gazette notifications today (20 August), cancelling the interim councils formed in November 2024 and replacing them with new ones.
According to the notifications, Dipan Talukdar, Mrasa Thowai Marma and Mamya Ching have been appointed chairmen of the Rangamati, Khagrachhari and Bandarban Zilla Parishads, respectively.
Each of the three zilla parishads will comprise a chairman and 14 members. The newly constituted interim councils will remain in office until further orders and perform their duties in accordance with the relevant laws and regulations.
The previous interim councils were formed through gazette notifications issued on 7 November 2024.
The new interim councils have been reconstituted under provisions of the Zilla Parishad Act, 1989, and subsequent amendments to the laws governing the three hill districts.
The notifications said the earlier interim councils formed through the 7 November 2024 gazette notifications had been cancelled.
The newly formed councils will continue to perform their duties until further orders.
