New domestic shipping service links Chattogram and Mongla

A new domestic shipping service has been launched between Chattogram and Mongla, marking a significant step in improving the country's internal trade logistics.
The initiative, fully supported by the Chattogram Port Authority and Mongla Port Authority, is being operated by Sea Glory Shipping Agencies Ltd.
The first voyage, which took place recently, was carried out by the 130 TEU capacity container ship SAPL-1 MV. It transported 100 TEUs of empty containers from Chattogram Port to Mongla Port.

Mainul Hossain, manager of Sea Glory Shipping, told The Business Standard that the vessel departed Chattogram on 13 February and arrived at Mongla the next day, establishing a direct container transport route between the two ports for the first time.
The new service is expected to reduce transit times and costs for shipping companies and exporters while enhancing trade efficiency.
Officials at the company further stated that traders in the Mongla Port area can now receive containers from larger vessels arriving at Chattogram and transport them to Mongla, while exporters in Mongla can use Chattogram Port to ship goods to international markets such as Malaysia, Singapore, Europe, and the US.
According to shipping industry experts, while Chattogram Port has established global connectivity, Mongla Port lacked direct international container links.
They said this new internal route is expected to bridge the gap and strengthen Mongla's access to global trade networks.
However, experts also emphasised the need for a streamlined customs process to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
