New Age Editor Nurul Kabir elected new president of Editors' Council, Bonik Barta Editor Hanif general secretary
The Editors' Council elected its new Executive Committee at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) today (13 November) at The Daily Star Centre, with New Age Editor Nurul Kabir elected as the new president and Bonik Barta Editor Hanif as the general secretary.
The council's outgoing president, Mahfuz Anam, chaired the meeting attended by the members of the current executive committee.
They included Mahfuz Anam, editor and publisher of The Daily Star; Matiur Rahman Chowdhury, editor of Manabzamin; Matiur Rahman, editor of Prothom Alo; Shamsul Huq Zahid, editor of The Financial Express; Tasmima Hossain, editor of The Daily Ittefaq; Dewan Hanif Mahmud, editor of Bonik Barta; Nurul Kabir, editor of New Age; AMM Bahauddin, editor of The Daily Inqilab; and Md Mozammel Haque, editor of The Daily Karatoa.
Joining the meeting virtually were DM Ramizuddin Chowdhury, editor of Dainik Purbokone, and Rusho Mahmud, editor of Suprabhat Bangladesh.
Among the newly inducted members attending the meeting were Inam Ahmed, editor of The Business Standard; Shahed Mohammad Ali, editor of Daily Samakal; Hasan Hafiz, editor of Kaler Kantho; Abu Taher, editor of Bangladesh Pratidin; and Rezaul Karim Lotus, editor of Daily Sun.
The term of the new committee elected according to the council's constitution is two years.
The elected members are as follows:
President: Nurul Kabir, editor, New Age
Vice President: Tasmima Hossain, editor, The Daily Ittefaq
General Secretary: Dewan Hanif Mahmud, editor, Bonik Barta
Joint General Secretary: Rusho Mahmud, editor, Suprobhat Bangladesh
