Need an election where people can take clear stand against fascism: Salahuddin
He added that the initiative to construct the country’s only deep seaport in Cox’s Bazar began during a previous BNP government, and the port is expected to be fully operational within the next one to one and a half years.
Bangladesh needs an election in which people can take a clear stand against fascism and pave the way for building a strong, egalitarian democratic state under the leadership of the BNP, party Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed said today (7 December).
"After a long time, people are getting the chance to exercise their voting rights, and this election will be one of the most significant in the country's history—an election to restore democracy by freeing the nation from fascism and autocracy," he said during the sixth day of his election campaign in Cox's Bazar's Chakaria upazila.
Salahuddin said the Election Commission is expected to announce the schedule for the upcoming national polls soon, and once it is declared, BNP candidates will begin campaigning in full compliance with the electoral code of conduct. Salahuddin, the BNP-nominated candidate for Cox's Bazar-1 (Chakaria-Pekua), said upgrading the Cox's Bazar-Chattogram highway to six lanes would be a top priority if the party forms the next government.
He added that the initiative to construct the country's only deep seaport in Cox's Bazar began during a previous BNP government, and the port is expected to be fully operational within the next one to one and a half years.
Once the port becomes functional, expanding the highway to six lanes will become essential, he said.
Wishing good health to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, Salahuddin said she has provided uncompromising leadership in the struggle for democracy. He pledged that if the BNP returns to power, it will ensure full independence of the judiciary and uphold the rule of law.
Earlier in the morning, Salahuddin conducted door-to-door campaigning in the Nunachhari, Naya Para, Rakhine Para, Harbang Bazar, Kala Sikder Para, Gudar Para, and Saudagar Para areas of the Harbang union in Chakaria.
In the afternoon, he joined further campaign events and roadside rallies in different areas of the Surajpur and Manikpur unions.
