NCP's Tasnim Jara announces candidacy for Dhaka-9
'I have applied for the NCP nomination for Dhaka-9, and I pledge that I will not spend a single taka beyond what is legally allowed', she says
National Citizen Party (NCP) Senior Joint Member Secretary Tasnim Jara today (6 December) announced that she will contest next year's national election from the Dhaka-9 constituency.
She made the announcement on her verified Facebook account this afternoon.
Dhaka-9 comprises Khilgaon, Sabujbagh, Mugda and Manda areas, where she will be running against BNP nominated former Chhatra Dal general secretary Habibur Rashid Habib, and Jamaat-e-Islami's Kabir Ahmed.
In her Facebook post, the NCP leader wrote, "Legally, a candidate in our country can spend a maximum of Tk25 lakh in elections. But in reality, we see that almost no one follows this law. It is said that some candidates spend Tk20, 50, even 100 crore. Yet when they go to the Election Commission, they claim to have spent only Tk25 lakh."
As a result, she said the journey to Parliament for almost everyone starts with breaking "the law and telling lies."
"I will not engage in this dishonesty and politics of falsehood," she said, adding, "I have applied for the NCP nomination for Dhaka-9, and I pledge that I will not spend a single taka beyond what is legally allowed."
Tasnim Jara further said she want to set an example that elections can be contested with honesty, outside the cycle of money and muscle power.
