NCP to launch election road march from 25 January
The National Citizen Party (NCP) will begin its election road march and street rallies at 30 spots over 11 days from 25 January to 6 February, Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan, the party's spokesperson and chairman of election management committee, said today (23 January).
Speaking at an emergency press conference at the party's Banglamotor office in Dhaka, he said the party would campaign for a "Yes" vote in the referendum and in favour of the party's 'Shapla Koli' symbol.
Asif Mahmud said the party had earlier decided to announce referendum candidates in the remaining 270 constituencies to raise public awareness, and will now declare candidates in 238 constituencies. He also said NCP's election theme song will be launched at the Payera Chattar of Dhaka University tomorrow (24 January).
Tarikul Islam, chief coordinator of the march and convener of Jatiya Jubo Shakti, said the programme will start at 11pm on 25 January and continue across the country, concluding with a grand rally in Dhaka.
He said the campaign would focus on three key issues: reform, good governance and sovereignty and that street rallies would also be held nationwide beyond the 30 designated constituencies.
Monira Sharmeen, election management committee member secretary, said old political parties are still not complying with election rules, while NCP is following them.
