National polls: 51 parties, 478 independents file nominations

Aspirant candidates from 51 political parties have filed nominations for the upcoming 13th national election.
According to the Election Commission (EC), no aspirants from eight registered parties submitted nomination papers for contesting the upcoming polls.
Md Ruhul Amin Mollik, director of public relations at the EC, told reporters that 51 registered parties are participating in the election, while 478 independent candidates have also submitted nominations.
According to EC sources, a total of 2,570 aspirants – including party-affiliated and independent contenders – have filed nominations so far.
The highest number of nominations has been collected by the BNP with 331, followed by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami with 276, Islami Andolan Bangladesh with 268, Jatiyo Party with 224, Gono Odhikar Parishad with 104, and National Citizen Party (NCP) with 44 nominations.
The submission deadline for nomination papers ended yesterday, with most candidates filing their papers on time.
