National Consensus Commission discusses 3 key issues with political parties today
This marks the second phase of the commission’s dialogue with the country’s political parties aimed at building consensus on political reforms

The National Consensus Commission is currently meeting with political parties today (17 June) to discuss three key issues – including the introduction of a bicameral parliament (with lower and upper houses) and the process for appointing the Chief Justice.
In addition, the agenda includes unresolved issues from earlier discussions, such as Article 70 of the Constitution, the nomination process for standing committee chairpersons, and women's representation.
The meeting was scheduled to begin at 11am at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital, though the start was delayed to 11:40am.
This marks the second phase of the commission's dialogue with the country's political parties aimed at building consensus on political reforms.
Commission Members Justice Md Emdadul Haque, Badiul Alam Majumder, Safar Raj Hossain, Iftekharuzzaman and Md Ayub Mia and Chief Adviser's Special Assistant Monir Haider were present.
The meeting was also attended by BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed, BNP Chairperson's Advisory Council Member Ismail Zabiullah, Khilafat Majlis Secretary General Ahmed Abdul Quader, Jatiya Gano Front Central Committee Coordinator Tipu Biswas, Gonosanghati Andolon Central Committee Executive Coordinator Abul Hasan Rubel, AB Party General Secretary Asaduzzaman Fuad, National Citizens Party (NCP) Senior Joint Member Secretary Dr Tasnim Zara, Labor Party Chairman Mustafizur Rahman Iran, Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Secretary General Redwan Ahmed, Bangladesh Liberal Democratic Party (BLDP) Chairman Shahadat Hossain Selim, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSD General Secretary Shahid Uddin Mahmud Swapan and Mushtaq Hossain from Bangladesh JSD, among others.
Earlier, on 3 June, the commission held its first session, which was attended by representatives of 33 political parties.
The commission has announced that discussions will continue over three days – today, as well as 18 and 19 June. Bangladesh Television News (BTV News) will broadcast the sessions live.
Sources said that following the meeting, the commission's vice-chairman Professor Ali Riaz will first brief the media, followed by statements from party representatives.
