Nahid discloses statement of wealth amassed during his tenure as interim govt adviser
He clarified that during his tenure as an adviser, neither he nor any member of my family (wife/mother/father) purchased any land or flat anywhere in Bangladesh

Nahid Islam today (26 February) disclosed his wealth statement, which was amassed during his tenure as the broadcasting and information adviser of the interim government.
"I did not have a bank account before joining the post of adviser. On 21 August, I officially opened a bank account with Sonali Bank to receive the honorarium for performing my duties as an adviser. I am presenting to the public the transaction accounts in that account from 21 August 2024 to 26 February 2025," Nahid, who resigned from his post of adviser yesterday, wrote in a Facebook post on his official page.
Detailing the transactions through the Sonali Bank account, he wrote that a total of "Tk10,06,886 has been deposited in the said account and Tk9,96,188 has been withdrawn" during his tenure as an adviser.
"It is to be noted that I do not have any other account except this account of Sonali Bank," he stated.
He also clarified that during his tenure as an adviser, neither he nor any member of my family (wife/mother/father) purchased any land or flat anywhere in Bangladesh.
"My personal secretary has Tk36,028 (thirty-six thousand and twenty-eight) in his account at Islami Bank Bangladesh. After he took charge as private secretary, he has not purchased any property anywhere in Bangladesh in his own name or in the name of any of his family [wife/mother/father]," the former adviser, who is expected to be the chief of an upcoming youth-led party, wrote.
Nahid also said he has a transparent account of the assets of anyone involved, including his personal employees. "Those will be made public if necessary."
"According to the Right to Information Act-2009, the said information is verifiable in any government office of Bangladesh," he added.
Nahid, who also oversaw the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, handed over his resignation letter to Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus after an informal meeting of the Advisory Council held at 1pm yesterday (25 February).
"Given the current situation in the country, the rise of a new political force is necessary. I have resigned to remain on the streets to consolidate the mass uprising. In addition to two ministries, I had to take on additional responsibilities...Six months is a very short time, and the people will evaluate the results [of my work]," Nahid said during a briefing later.
Nahid, who came to the spotlight during the July-August uprising as a key coordinator of the movement, is set to join the upcoming party of Students Against Discrimination and the Jatiya Nagorik Committee scheduled to be launched on 28 February. He is expected to be the convener of the new party.
