Posts and Telecommunications Adviser Md Nahid Islam today (5 September) directed Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL) to ensure its services at affordable prices to educational institutions.

He made this directive during a view exchange meeting with the BTCL officials at its headquarters, said a ministry press release.

Nahid, also the information and broadcasting adviser, said that the government has initiatives but why those don't reach the people; it has to be found out. "We may have limitations, but have to ensure corruption-free services to the people."

He remembered all the martyrs and injured with deep respect on the occasion of one-month completion of the new Bangladesh achieved through the student-people uprising.

Mentioning that all the people of Bangladesh are becoming hopeful again, he said the present time will be used for reforms as this is what the countrymen are expecting. "We want to make reforms in all areas that will benefit Bangladesh in the long run."

Nahid Islam said it is necessary to settle the cases against BTCL, including stopping the allegations of irregularities and corruption in the appointment of contractors in the company's projects.

He said BTCL launched profitable application "Alap" which was like WhatsApp, which would have benefited BTCL immensely but it didn't happen.

The adviser also mentioned about "GPON", a very popular broadband internet connection of BTCL. He also laid emphasis on massive campaigns of "GPON" and "Aalap" to make those more popularize.

Posts and Telecommunications Secretary Dr Md Mushfiqur Rahman also spoke on the occasion.
