After 39 days of demonstrations that kept the Nagar Bhaban locked, protesters have announced the reopening of all departments and regional offices of Dhaka South City Corporation, except for the offices of the administrator and engineering division.

The announcement was made by the movement's chief coordinator, Moshiur Rahman today (22 June) around 1pm on behalf of Ishraque Hossain's supporters demonstrating inside Nagar Bhaban.

"Offices of the chief executive officer, engineering division, waste management department, electrical circle, health department, revenue department, and all regional executive officers will be reopened and the officials will be allowed to work," Moshiur said.

"We have made this decision to ensure uninterrupted public services. We do not want any citizen to be deprived of civic services from the city corporation," he added.

"We are urging all officials working in the civic service departments, including the regional offices of Dhaka South City Corporation, to return to their respective duties to ensure uninterrupted public services. However, city residents will continue their sit-in at Nagar Bhaban, demanding Ishraque Hossain's swearing-in as mayor," he said.

Moshiur further warned, "If any fascist official or their accomplice enters Nagar Bhaban, they will be doing so at their own risk. There is no place for fascists in Nagar Bhaban."

He also called on everyone to ensure that public services are not disrupted in any way.

At the same time, the protesters demanded the removal of Adviser Asif Mahmud Sojib Bhuiyan, accusing him of defying the constitution and court orders by preventing Ishraque Hossain from taking oath.
