A group of unidentified youths attacked the car of Nagad Administrator Badiuzzaman Didar on Road-12 in Banani of the capital as he was returning home from the Nagad Headquarters in Kamal Ataturk Avenue today (12 February).

"I left the Nagad's head office at around 4:30pm. After driving for a few minutes, three or four young men suddenly stood in front of my car. They shouted at me and broke the front glass of my car with hammers," Badiuzzaman told The Business Standard in the evening.

He also said, "There were many people on the streets. When they rushed to my rescue, the miscreants ran away. I will file a case with Banani Police Station on behalf of Nagad."

Contacted, Banani Police Station's Officer-In-Charge Russel Sarwar said the police were informed of the attack, but as of 7:00pm, no complaint had been filed with the station.

The attack comes following a raid by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) at the head office of Nagad earlier in the day.

During the raid, the ACC team found primary evidence of corruption and laundering of about Tk2,356 crore using the Nagad platform.

The raid was led by ACC Assistant Director Md Ruhul Haque.

After the raid, Administrator Badiuzzaman, who is also a director of the Bangladesh Bank, said, 'Some scams were conducted using Nagad, including creating additional e-money, transferring funds and holding shares. Initially, evidence of laundering of Tk1,700 crore and irregularities related to e-money of Tk600 crore has been found.'
