Nabil Mustafizur declines Sammilito Islami Bank MD role citing health issues
Islami Bank’s board Chairman Md Ayub Mia said that the ministry may now select another candidate from the originally proposed list or issue a new circular for appointment.
Nabil Mustafizur Rahman, additional managing director (MD) of United Commercial Bank (UCB), will not assume the position of managing director at state-owned Islami Bank PLC due to health reasons.
He has reportedly submitted a letter to Bangladesh Bank stating his inability to take up the post.
Earlier, the Financial Institutions Division of the Ministry of Finance had sent a letter to the bank's board chairman, informing that the government had approved Nabil's appointment for a three-year contractual term.
The letter requested the bank's board chairman to take necessary steps regarding Nabil Mostafizur Rahman's appointment under the Bank Company Act, 1991.
However, Islami Bank's board Chairman Md Ayub Mia said that the ministry may now select another candidate from the originally proposed list or issue a new circular for appointment.
A bank official confirmed the appointment to The Business Standard yesterday, saying the Ministry of Finance's Financial Institutions Division approved it on 15 February.
Repeated attempts to reach Rahman for comment were unsuccessful.
