A Bangladeshi fisherman was killed and another injured when members of Myanmar Navy opened fire on them in Naf River in Teknaf border of Cox's Bazar early today.

The deceased Nur Mohammad, 34, was a resident upazila's Maheshkhaliapara area. His nephew Abul Kalam, 32, sustained bullet injuries that time.

"When my uncle and I were catching fish in the Naf River, Myanmar Navy opened fire on us," said Abul Kalam.

"Both of us sustained bullet injuries. I dragged my uncle to the bank of the river and I can't remember anything after that," he added.

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) source said a team of Teknaf BGB-2 Battalion found two people lying on the ground in the area. BGB men rushed to them and found one dead.

The BGB took the injured to Upazila Health Complex. Later he was transferred to Cox's Bazar Sadar for better treatment.

Police have been sent to the spot for recovering the body after getting information from BGB, said Pradip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station.
