AL candidates win mayoral polls in 9 municipalities, BNP in 1

The ruling party candidates have so far won the mayoral polls of nine municipalities in Pabna, Dinajpur, Netrokona and Bagerhat districts. 

According to reports reaching The Business Standard news desk as of filing this report, the ruling party candidates in all four municipalities of Pabna have unofficially been announced winners.

Mahbubur Rahman, the returning officer and district election officer of Pabna, confirmed the matter, saying the voting in the district was completed without facing any untoward incident.

KHM Kamruzzaman Mazed won the mayoral election in Faridpur municipality with 5,026 votes in bag while Mahbubul Alam Bacchu in Santhia municipality, Ishaq Ali Malitha in Iswardi municipality, and Golam Hasnayen Rasel won in the mayoral polls of Bhangura municipality, he said.

In Dinajpur, the ruling party-backed mayoral candidate, Aqqas Ali secured victory in the election to Birampur municipality while Awami League's rebel candidate Mosharraf Hossain Babul in Birganj Municipality and BNP-backed Syed Jahangir Alam won the election in Dinajpur Municipality. 

In Netrokona, Advocate Latifur Rahman Ratan and Asadul Haque Bhuiyan, the ruling party candidates, came up victorious in the mayoral elections of Mohanganj and Kendua municipalities respectively. 

In Bagerhat, Awami League-backed mayoral candidate came up victorious in the unofficial result in the Mongla Port municipality. 

Farazi Benzir Ahmed, the returning officer, announced the result, saying the final result will be issued in the form of gazette as per Election Commission policy.
