Mughdha stage inaugurated in Uttara by Adviser Farida Akhtar
Farida Akhtar, Adviser on Fisheries and Livestock to the Government of Bangladesh, declared today that the newly unveiled Mughdha Stage symbolises the enduring spirit of the July mass uprising.
She said, "It reminds us that autocratic and fascist regimes cannot prevail in Bangladesh."
She made the remarks as the Chief Guest at the inauguration of the Mughdha Stage. The stage was erected by Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) at Rabindra Sarobar, Sector 3, Uttara, in memory of martyr Mir Mahfuzur Rahman Mughdha.
Adviser Akhtar noted that for the past 15–17 years, people have been silenced. But that does not mean the public will remain voiceless or that those in power will go unchallenged. She said, "This stage stands as a symbol of protest."
Paying tribute to martyrs' families, she said, "We support your demands. We envision a Bangladesh where no mother's womb is emptied and no father must carry his child's body."
"We will organise movements and raise our voices," she affirmed. "But we do not want a police force that shoots its own people." Referring to the 2018 Safe Roads Movement, she recalled students calling for state reform. She said that this call was vindicated once again by the July 2024 uprising. "State reform must continue uninterrupted," she declared.
The event was chaired by Mohammad Ejaz, DNCC Administrator. It featured addresses by Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubayer, Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami; Dr Tasnim Zara, Senior Joint Secretary of the National Citizens' Party (NCP); Mr Asaduzzaman, DNCC Chief Executive Officer; the mother of martyr Naima Sultana; the father of martyr Jabir; and wounded July fighter Abdul Aziz.
The ceremony was compered by Mir Mahfuzur Rahman Mughdha's brother, Mir Mahbubur Rahman Snigdha.
