Passenger bus catches fire in Mirpur
Two Fire Service units are working to put out the blaze opposite Jamjam Tower in Mirpur-11.
A passenger bus caught fire in the capital's Mirpur-11 area this evening (19 September).
The Fire Service received the report of the fire involving a bus of Shikhor Paribahan opposite Jamjam Tower in Mirpur-11 at around 7:13pm, according to Rashed Bin Khalid, duty officer at the Fire Service control room.
"Two Fire Service units were sent to the spot after we received the report at 7:13pm. They are currently working to bring the fire under control," he told The Business Standard.
He said the bus caught fire while it was in motion.
However, Pallabi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Hasan Bashir told The Business Standard that the bus was parked by the roadside at the time of the incident and had no passengers aboard.
"Initially, we suspect that someone from the banned organisation set fire to the bus. We are investigating the matter," he said.
The cause of the fire and whether there were any casualties could not be immediately confirmed.
