Move protests away from roads, urges home adviser
The adviser’s comment comes amid ongoing demonstrations in the capital demanding a ban on the Awami League

Everyone should refrain from staging protests on public roads and instead move their demonstrations to alternative locations to avoid causing public suffering, said Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today (10 May).
Speaking to reporters after visiting Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, he said, "People are suffering due to these road blockades. It would be better if such demonstrations were moved away from the streets.
"Journalists should play an effective role in creating public awareness regarding the matter," he added.
The adviser's comment comes amid ongoing demonstrations demanding a ban on the Awami League. Protesters had initially gathered in front of the chief adviser's residence, Jamuna, but they later moved to the busy Shahbag intersection to stage a blockade.
The protests are being led by the National Citizen Party (NCP) and several other political organisations, who have vowed to continue the blockade until a formal notification is issued banning the Awami League.
Meanwhile, political parties led by NCP are staging a mass gathering at Shahbag this afternoon, following up on their announcement made yesterday.
Responding to a question about government efforts to bring back ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina through Interpol, the home affairs adviser said that the process was underway.
"We are trying through Interpol, and they will proceed according to their legal framework," he added.
