More than hundred buildings face fire risk in Khulna
The owners of the buildings have been directed to ensure fire safety

Most of the hospitals, banks, and different government and non-governmental organisations are facing the risk of fire in Khulna.
Fire service officials have identified more than a hundred buildings in the region that lack proper fire safety measures.
“We have identified the buildings as risky. Many buildings don’t have any fire lift,” said Md Dulal Miah, assistant director of Khulna Fire Service.
“Buildings are being built without following the building code. There is no fire safety plan too. It is hard to extinguish a fire in these buildings,” he added.
Fire service officials said there are no sources of water around the Bangladesh Bank and the New Market Area of the city.
They said most of the roads in the residential areas of Khulna City Corporation are narrow. It is very hard for a fire service vehicle to reach the Boro Bazar area, the main business centre of the city, because of inadequate roads.
The owners of the buildings have been instructed to ensure fire safety.
“We advised the owners of the buildings to install fire safety machines and keep water reserve,” said Dulal.
Some of the major buildings declared risky are Khulna General Hospital, Khulna Shishu Hospital, City Medical College and Hospital, Khulna Medical College and Hospital and Gazi Medical College and Hospital.
