A group of 50–60 agitated people stormed the Rabindra Kachharibari premises and vandalised the auditorium and custodian’s office

An angry mob vandalised the auditorium of Rabindra Kacharibari in Shahzadpur municipality area of Sirajganj district today (10 June), protesting the alleged attack on a visitor over entry tickets, police said.
According to locals, on the second day of Eid (8 June) around 4:30pm, the visitor expatriate Shahnewaz Hossain and his wife Sweety Khatun forcefully entered the historic site without buying entry tickets.
A verbal altercation ensued with the on-duty staff, which allegedly escalated when the site's custodian, Habibur Rahman, along with several employees, took him to the office room where they allegedly beat up Shahnewaz over the issue.
Following the incident, Shahnewaz filed a complaint with the Shahzadpur Police Station that day, naming six staff members.
Protesting the issue today (10 June), Shahnewaz, with local people, formed a human chain in front of Press Club premises in Sirajganj, demanding punishment of those involved in the assault.
Later, a group of 50–60 agitated people stormed the Rabindra Kachharibari premises and vandalised the auditorium and custodian's office.
Shahzadpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) told The Business Standard, "A complaint was lodged earlier. We are investigating the matter. However, today's attack on the premises came unexpectedly. The situation is now under control."
Additional police have been deployed in the Rabindra Kacharibari to avert further trouble, the OC added.
